Sociality of the game

The relationship in the market is mediated by the game.

As the Chessmaster, Norman has been playing chess here for 8 years, which makes him keep in good relationship with others in the market. They will greet him warmly when he comes to the market on Sunday mornings. All of them are connected by the game.

Norman comes to the market with only the chess and he borrows the chairs and tables from the neighbors in the market. They are all happy with it. And his friends in the market always come to watch him playing or play with him when they are not so busy. Besides, Norman got his license to play chess in Brick Lane Market for free. It seems everyone likes him and the chessman is in good relationship with the whole market.

The tension in the chess play also contributes to his relationship with the visitors. They are more friends than rivals.

In conclusion, the chess brings fun to the market and makes it special. Visitors to Brick Lane Market are from all over the world. The challengers are also diverse. Some of them are good at chess while some are not but just want to challenge him. No matter they win or lose, they are happy and proud, with the laugh. They know, as foreign visitors, it may be the only time to play with the chessman in a market. They would shake hands and say "Bye-bye" to wish them all the best.

Something about this mini project

The project is about the relationship between games and markets. I spent nearly two months to finish the fieldwork. If it is sunny on Sunday, I will meet Norman in the Brick Lane Market and spend the afternoon watching them playing chess. Sounds boring, but it was really interesting. I learned how to play chess just before I started this project because of my course. Then this project gives me a good chance to practice. Also, it drove me to explore the markets in London. I chose Brick Lane Market because it is amazing and special.

I named this website by "'lost' in Brick Lane Market", which has two meanings. For one thing, the market is so attractive that visitors are fascinated by its food, arts, and everything. For the other, Norman is good at chess and wins almost every time. The challengers lost in the play. But instead, they win the happiness.

In conclusion, I want to express the fun in my web design by the interactive choice and all the visual materials.

Lost in Brick Lane Market, Gain your fun.
